of Cornish households are getting their first chance to sample the “buy fresh, buy local” wares of cornishfoodmarket.co.uk this week as the brand new home delivery service goes live to its first wave of customers in the Falmouth – Truro area. (Tuesday 16 November 2010)
And as shoppers finally get to meander through the best of local fare via CFM’s fun and user friendly website one happy customer is getting even more of a bargain than most from her first order.
Fyonah Ferris, of Devoran, is amongst the thousands of people who have signed up to register their interest in the new on-line service, developed over two years from its HQ on Cornwall’s south coast to link best Cornish produce and much else besides to local householders. Her lucky database number came up in a random selection, winning her £350 to spend on groceries of her choice.
“There’s an incredible range of food and drink on the website that all looks so delicious – but it looks even better here on my doorstep!” said Fyonah as she took her delivery from CFM’s Mike Phillips. “To get my first orders free is an even bigger bonus!
“I am always eager to support local producers and with cornishfoodmarket.co.uk the prices are extremely competitive, so there’s no excuse not to.
“Being a keen cook myself I’m very aware of costs and convenience. When I’m entertaining I’ve been known to drive from one end of Cornwall to the other to ensure my ingredients are fresh, but now, at the click of a button I can order the same local products the night before and sit back and wait for them to be delivered. This is so fantastic to be able to save money, but more importantly these days, our most valuable commodity, TIME!”
Cornishfoodmarket.co.uk was officially launched at the Cornwall Food and Drink Festival where it won many fans with its mission statement of a full online home delivery service that is just as convenient and competitive as the supermarkets, but with best local produce at its heart.
Delivery is free, Monday to Friday, with a minimum order of just £12.50 and thanks to a state of the art website designed by the team at Nixon in Hayle, shoppers can easily negotiate through 3000 products, choosing among the quality wares of more than 100 local producers and more than 1000 other prime grocery and household items.
This new e-venture is the logical extension to its parent company Westcountry Fruit Sales Ltd – a 150 year old family wholesale business based near Falmouth with long-established and close contacts within Cornwall’s food production and catering sectors.
“We’ve been supplying top class restaurants with top class produce for many years and they demand that the provenance is local where conceivably possible,” said Sean Williams, MD of Westcountry Fruit Sales and cornishfoodmarket.co.uk. “There’s absolutely no reason why householders shouldn’t get that same level of quality in their home grocery shopping.
“So many independent high street food retailers have been squeezed out of the market-place because they just couldn’t compete with the supermarkets. We’re creating a brand new market for local producers and giving them a better rate of return, as well as giving householders real value for money and convenience on quality produce.”
Online shoppers can order up to eleven o’clock at night, knowing that their fresh fish will come up from Newlyn, their bread will be freshly baked and their salad leaves will be picked straight from the ground for the next afternoon’s delivery. Add in the local meats, chutneys, wines, beers and juices, together with the fruit and veg like bananas that cannot be sourced locally and household basics from loo rolls to cleaning products and you have a truly comprehensive shop.
“We aim to provide an all-round top class service for the people of Cornwall and eventually to parts of Devon,” said Sean. “But we’re going to make sure it’s working perfectly in a relatively small delivery area before we roll the service out.
“We’ve been working on cornishfoodmarket.co.uk solidly for two years and it’s fantastic finally to be seeing people really enjoying the whole concept as much as we do.”
The new website went live to customers in the Falmouth-Truro area on Tuesday 16 November and the CFM team will be extremely grateful for all feed-back from new shoppers. It is also welcoming the huge numbers of people who continue to sign up and register their interest and it will be keeping everyone up to date with progress and roll-out plans.
