The exhibitors in the Cornwall Food and Farming Pavilion at the Royal Cornwall Show number more than 50 this year and once again they pulled out all the stops to create a visual feast to match the quality of food on display.
The Food and Farming Awards are a way of praising the effort and innovation of the exhibitors in presenting their product in an imaginative and informative manner. In particular they were enthusiastic about the examples of collaboration between producers in bringing new products to the market and the engagement of the consumer through the product with the wider community.
The Result’s of the Food and Farming Awards are as follows:
The Best New Product for 2011 is Kernow Sausage Company’s “Betty’s Bangers”. Developed in collaboration with Skinner’s Brewery, these are quality traditional pork sausages whose flavour has been enhanced by the addition of Betty Stoggs ale. The New product Award is sponsored by Cornwall Catering Excellence.
The Product Marketing Award, sponsored by Cornwall Food and Drink, went to The Cornish Crisp Company whose delicious hand cooked “Devastater” crisps are locally produced from local spuds and are marketed with a strategy that positively shouts about its provenance. A feature of their range of crisps is that a percentage from every packet in sold goes to support a different local charity.
This year’s Farmer Producer was Cornish Orchards; the judges admired the enthusiasm and commitment which greeted visitors to the stand and the elegant display graced with live apple trees in fruit. This award is sponsored by Business Link for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Devon and Somerset.
The Big Buns Cake Company were thrilled to be presented with the Best New Exhibit Award, which was sponsored by Richards of Cornwall. Wendy Mitchell and her team had a hectic first day and were hurrying home to bake into the night.
With a highly effective new stand recreating the interior of their air-drying rooms, Deli Farm Charcuterie took the Best Exhibit Award, sponsored by Cornwall Food and Farming Group. The judges had a hard job deciding the award this year with so many strong contenders. ‘The standard of presentation continues to rise each year with a tremendous amount of time, innovation and imagination being put into the stands. Every exhibitor deserves to be congratulated,’ said Ashley Wood, organiser of the Pavilion.
